Salted Caramel Apple Cider Doughnuts

These salted caramel apple cider doughnuts are a delightful fall treat with a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness. They are best enjoyed fresh and warm.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • Sea salt flakes for garnish
  • 1-2 apples, thinly sliced for decoration

Instructions:

Simmer the apple cider in a saucepan over medium heat until it reduces to half a cup

Give it time to cool

Mix together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt in a mixing bowl

Melted butter, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract should all be combined in a different bowl

Mix thoroughly after adding the reduced apple cider to the wet ingredients

Mixing until just combined, pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients

Preheat vegetable oil to 350F 175C in a deep fryer or large pot with a heavy bottom

Dough spoonfuls should be dropped into the hot oil and cooked for two to three minutes on each side, or until golden brown

After removing, drain the doughnuts on paper towels

While the caramel is still warm, dip each doughnut into the sauce and top with flakes of sea salt

If desired, garnish with thinly sliced apples

Present and savor!
